How to Start a Clothing Line

How to Start a Clothing Line

Do you dream of starting your own clothing line?

I did, too! When I got into pole fitness a few years ago, there was no workout clothing for the sport. Frustrated with fighting against slippery fabrics and shorts that were either too long or too short, I decided to design my own line and PoleSkivvies pole dance clothing was born.

Since then, I have frequently been approached by other would-be designers to give them some tips and point them in the right direction. That’s how this class came to be.

I’ll teach you the jargon and process of apparel manufacturing, as well as the importance (and pitfalls!) of market research. We’ll address how to bring your product to market and what you need to grow your business (including a section on crisis control!).

I’ll share with you the ups and downs I went through in launching PoleSkivvies – and even let you in on what I wish I’d done differently!

This class will get your new clothing line off to a solid start. It covers …

arrow-heart-shaped-right Week 1: Basics and Process – In this class, you’ll learn the jargon and process of apparel manufacturing, including the business differences between manufacturing your own line vs. applying your graphics to pre-existing garments. You’ll learn how to figure out price points, the pros and cons of market research, plus how to find suppliers, manufacturers, and pattern makers.

arrow-heart-shaped-right Week 2: Bringing Your Product to Market – This class teaches you the art of collecting pre-orders, as well as the pros and cons of inventory vs. making items as orders come in. We will also cover photo shoots, sales and marketing, insurance, tax implications, and websites.

arrow-heart-shaped-right Week 3: Growing Your Business – This class will show you what to watch for as your business grows, such as increasing production costs as you introduce additional styles and colors, forecasting, customer service, and marketing calendars. You’ll also learn crisis control for common apparel business problems (you’ll need it!).

Even better …
